While I don't have a lot of spare time this year, I wouldn't mind restarting this project. Though doing so would need a complete rethink and reassessment of our goals. The initial "Fan" based approach obviously failed.

I personally think that using in-browser such as Flash or Unity3D would be on an order of a magnitude easier to complete, give the game a far greater market and possible make it a viable commercial venture (you would loose the freelancer relationship, but would gain an impetus for completion).

I think that if we had 3(for flash) to 6(for Unity3D) people interested in this project, we could a fully functional game out within a year. You would have to cut out 90% of the features you originally wanted, but would have a decent game made and earning revenue. Then with that revenue could you start including the features you need to make it truely unique.
