Assessing OpenGameForge

Postby MegaBurn » Tue Jun 30, 2009 4:22 pm

The OpenGameForge project is two parts, the community and the website infrastructure. Since its inception the major focus was on the website, how to make it better serve the needs of the community and rebuilding after two large catastrophic hosting failures. The community side has not received the same critical analysis. During OGF2.5 development there was some talk of this site's reputation, apparently its tainted. At the same time the community is scattered, the people still around are disengaged and some people have moved on to other projects. The goal of this thread is to assess OGF's reputation, both internally and externally, and find ways to improve it.

Please post your honest opinion of OGF. Then ask other people, outside of the community, about their opinion of OGF and post it here, also ask other OGF members to post. Finally review the other posts and post your critical analysis.

This is the first step of a larger plan to get OGF back on track. Next step is identifying specific problems and ways to resolve them. Then building relations with other communities and organizing some initiatives to strengthen this community, as well as doing some serious short term planning.
What? You were expecting some profound quote or insight? Something about how our socioeconomic reality is an illusion and anything is possible? Or maybe, great potential is squandered by those who do nothing? Sorry, I'm out of canned wisdom for now.

The content engine (joomla) was a good chose, unfortunately there dont seem to be many active members. this is OGF bigest weakness. many games sites are simple advanced forums yet have lost of members, hopefully once everything is up and running things will get better.
